OUR APPROACH TO THOUGHT FIELD THERAPYHow TFT Began (Mary's Story)
TFT began when a talented psychotherapist became frustrated with the conventional method of therapy
available.
TFT was invented and developed by Dr Roger Callahan,(therapy also known as Callahan Technique), one of America's most distinguished and experienced clinical psychologists, who played a large part in developing traditional Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. After using conventional therapies for 30 years, Dr Callahan was dissatisfied with the poor results (they have a 3% success rate !) and became interested in an alternative therapy called Applied Kinesiology (AK), which involves the body's energy meridians. In 1980, Dr Callahan was treating Mary, a patient who had a phobia of water. After 18 months of treatment and trying various therapies, including hypnosis and behaviour therapy, Mary had barely improved. Callahan took a shot in the dark. Mary said she could feel the anxiety in the pit of her stomach. He knew the stomach meridian passed beneath both eyes. As Mary imagined her fear, he tapped beneath one of Mary's eyes. Her fear of water instantly vanished and she has remained phobia-free to this day, more than 20 years later. Dr Callahan repeated this technique with other phobia sufferers, but found it only worked with a small minority of patients. However, years of research and experimentation has resulted in what we now know as TFT. Eventually Dr Callahan discovered that most emotional problems including anxiety, depression, phobias, traumas and obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) could be cured by tapping on the correct parts of the body in the right sequence. He discovered menus of tapping sequences (called algorithms) which had an 80% success rate in treating various emotional problems. Dr Callahan had in fact tapped into nature's own healing system - a series of "healing codes". Using the algorithms and Advanced Techniques, TFT has a success rate of over 95%.....compared to traditional psychotherapy that has a 3% success rate! |
