THOUGHT FIELD THERAPY CASE NOTE - Ben's Story

Happy and pleasant Ben is eight years old. He is above average intelligence and has always enjoyed school and is a popular child. One morning, for no apparent reason, Ben did not want to go to school. He started crying and making excuses. His mother was very sympathetic but managed to get him ready and into school.

She did all the checks that any parent would do. She asked if anything had happened that meant he did not want to attend school, e.g. if he was being bullied. His mother also spoke to his teacher, but nothing out of the ordinary was reported.

After talking to Ben, I discovered that he had become frustrated and bored by the slow pace of the day and was no longer enjoying school. This caused him to feel stressed and frustrated. Before speaking to me, his mother had considered arranging an appointment with a psychologist. This would have lead to years worth of consultations and lots of disruption for both Ben and his mother, without any great prospect of a solution.Because Ben is quite young, the session had to be relaxed and quick so as not to cause him any further stress.

I was able to quickly administer the treatment to each of the points of stress and we were finished within 20 minutes. When asked if he was looking forward to school, with a big smile, Ben said: ‘Yes’. His mother asked him how he felt after the treatment and Ben said he felt relaxed.

The proof is in the pudding: I spoke to Ben’s mother the following day and she said that Ben was absolutely fine and was back to his normal happy self in the morning, and looking forward to school.
